Susan Weil

Susan WeilSusan Weil is Professor Emeritus at UWE. She founded SOLAR at University College Northampton and was its director there between 1996 and 2002. When SOLAR moved to UWE in 2002 she co-directed SOLAR with Professor Danny Burns. In 2007 she moved to Italy.

Susan served as Education and Training/ Workforce development consultant to the NHS Executive, London, from 1996 to 2002. Prior to setting up SOLAR she worked for five years at the Office for Public Management as Head of Higher Education Development and as a Fellow in Public Sector Organisational Learning. Before this Susan was a senior lecturer at the Institute of Education, University of London, where she completed her PhD (1989). In 1993 she was seconded to the RSA national Higher Education for Capability initiative, and elected Chair of the Society for Research into Higher Education, after almost ten years of service on its council. During this period she also founded and chaired the International Consortium on Experiential Learning. The University of Wolverhampton awarded her an Honorary Fellowship in 1994 in recognition of her whole system consultancy practice with universities. Susan also has extensive experience as a strategic dialogue partner and systemic consultant to leaders and managers across the UK public and voluntary sector, working with them to develop an orientation to ‘whole system’ approaches and to participatory learning and inquiry
