Health and Life Sciences research at UWE

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS) has a vibrant research culture organised primarily through its Research Centres and Institutes. The extent of research development in HLS was underlined by the results of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise when it lead UWE submissions in the Allied Health Professions and Studies (65% of the submissions deemed world-leading or internationally excellent), in Nursing and Midwifery (45% world-leading or internationally excellent), in Agricultural, Veterinary and Food Science (45% world-leading or internationally excellent) and in Social Work, Social Policy and Administration (25% world-leading or internationally excellent).

UWE is also a member of the Bristol Research and Innovation Group for Health (BRIG-H), which is a Bristol-wide stategic research and innovation partnership. The group is a collaboration with the University of Bristol and four local NHS trusts. Click here for more information about BRIG-H.

The Faculty is now pushing ahead by investing in its research priority areas, namely biomedical and biosensing sciences; child health; appearance research and long term conditions.
